How to Choose Thigh Blocks
EQ Saddle Science offers a variety of block shapes, sizes and contours to provide optimal thigh support (including no block at all). All of the blocks pictured above are “Stand-Alone”, and each is also available as an Embedded Block.
Why so many options?
Choosing the correct shape for the angle of your thigh and then placing it where you need it will give you access to a new level of support and security, without compromising the effectiveness and flexibility of your hip and thigh. The ideal block placement will be parallel to your natural thigh angle, which will vary based on the shape of your thigh and the length of your stirrups.
When to use Stand-alone Blocks?
All of our thigh blocks are designed to provide subtly different riding experiences. When you test a saddle, request a kit of the blocks that appeal to you most, so you can try them out. Stand-alone blocks can be placed anywhere on the saddle so that you can find your ideal position. Once you’ve determined your best shape and position, we will provide that exact fit in an Embedded Block (see below).

Embedded Thigh Blocks
All of our Stand-alone blocks are available embedded in a leather cover which goes over the entire velcro patch on the saddle, and at least one pair will be included with your trial saddle. Many riders find that our standard block positions work well. Others use the Stand-alone blocks to figure out exactly where they want thigh support, and choose to order a pair of custom Embedded Blocks.
